Job Title: Junior to Intermediate Mechanical Designer - Piping Focus

Location: 1680 Woodward Drive, Ottawa, ON

Salary: $55,000 to $75,000 per year, commensurate with experience

Job Type: Full-time

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM

Job Description: We are looking for a Mechanical Designer with experience in CAD and piping design and drafting. The ideal candidate will possess a range of experience, from entry-level up to 4 years, with a demonstrated ability to develop detailed piping layouts and designs. This is a design-focused position that will involve:

• Developing detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for piping systems
• Applying industry codes and standards to piping design (e.g., ASME B31.3)
• Integrating piping design with overall mechanical and structural designs
• Reviewing and interpreting P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams)
• Collaborating with engineers and other designers to ensure design accuracy and constructability
• Occasional client interfacing and site visits to support project needs

Responsibilities:

• Develop detailed 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings for piping systems, including isometrics and layouts.
• Select appropriate piping materials, valves, and fittings based on project requirements and specifications.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry codes, standards, and client specifications.
• Collaborate with process engineers to understand system requirements and translate them into detailed designs.
• Review vendor drawings and equipment specifications to ensure proper integration with piping systems.
• Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Prepare material take-offs and support procurement activities.
• Interface with clients to understand project requirements and provide design updates as needed.
• Visit client sites (occasionally) to gather information and support project execution.

Requirements:

• College diploma in mechanical design or a related discipline.
• 2 to 4 years of proven experience in CAD and piping design and drafting.
• Strong proficiency in 3D modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit MEP, SolidWorks) and 2D drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD).
• Solid understanding of piping fundamentals, including materials, fittings, and valves.
• Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, CSA).
• Ability to interpret P&IDs and other engineering documents.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
• Proficiency in English; French is an asset.
