Job Description

ROLE: Environmental Health Safety Specialist

REPORTS TO: Environmental Health Safety Manager

LOCATION: Burnaby Head Office (BC & ON Manufacturing Plants - regular travel)

We are seeking a motivated Environmental Health Safety Specialist (EHS) to support our expanding operations across multiple manufacturing sites and our head office in British Columbia. Reporting to the EHS Manager, you will help implement and maintain our Safety Management System (SMS), Environmental Management System (EMS), and drive regulatory compliance. Your work will help us advance toward COR certification, strengthen ESG efforts, and create a safer, more sustainable workplace.

Opportunities

This is a newly created role within a growing EHS function—an exciting opportunity to help shift the organization from reactive compliance to a proactive, integrated safety culture. You’ll contribute to a 5-year strategy for improved EHS performance and be instrumental in building foundational systems and influencing lasting change across our facilities.

Here is who you are…

Drive & Motivation

  • You are energized by the opportunity to shape and grow a safety culture from the ground up.
  • You thrive in fast-paced manufacturing environments,
  • communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, and bring a practical, hands-on approach to EHS.
  • Detail-oriented and compliance-driven,
  • you’re passionate about protecting people and the environment
  • want to be part of a company committed to doing things the right way.

Character & Abilities

  • You have a strong working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations in particular WorkSafeBC and Ontario Occupational Health and Safety and have successfully applied them in industrial settings.
  • With experience in Safety Management Systems, COR (OSSE) processes, and environmental permitting,
  • you are confident conducting audits, training teams, supporting investigations, and driving continuous improvement.
  • You know how to influence, not just enforce and you’re eager to make a real difference.

Your Impact will Include:

  • Supporting execution of our 5-year safety and environmental strategy.
  • Driving day-to-day compliance with WorkSafeBC and environmental regulations.
  • Coaching frontline leaders and employees on safe work practices and hazard awareness.
  • Conducting inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Assisting with COR (OSSE) audit readiness and EMS maintenance.
  • Supporting waste management, permitting, and environmental reporting efforts.
  • Helping foster a proactive and inclusive safety culture across union and non-union teams.
  • Collaborating with Operations, Quality, Engineering, and People & Culture to embed EHS into daily business practices.
  • Tracking and analyzing EHS data to identify trends and improve performance.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in EHS roles, ideally in manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC OHSR and environmental compliance
  • Experience with COR (OSSE), SMS/EMS programs, audits, and investigations
  • Comfortable coaching frontline and cross-functional teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and EHS management software

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience supporting ESG reporting, RTW coordination, or industrial hygiene programs
  • Knowledge of JSA/SWP development and safety culture initiatives
  • Familiarity with lean or continuous improvement in safety settings

Additional Information

  • Role requires regular travel between sites across British Columbia and Ontario
  • Occasional evening or off-shift work may be required to support projects
